TEL AVIV, Israel, Sept. 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Beamr Imaging Ltd., a world leader in content-adaptive video encoding and optimization solutions, announces a breakthrough in density and performance on the recently announced Intel® Xeon® Scalable platform. Following the successful launch of the Beamr 5 HEVC software encoder for the Intel® Xeon® processor E3 family, Beamr and Intel have extended their cooperation to include the new Intel Xeon Scalable platform.
Leveraging Beamr's HEVC codec IP library, the scalable Beamr 5 HEVC software encoder utilizes the advanced features of the Intel Xeon Platinum processors, the most advanced of the Intel Xeon Scalable processors, to encode up to six live Ultra High Definition channels of 10-bit HDR 4Kp60 at broadcast quality on a dual-socket Intel Xeon Platinum 8180 processor based server. This throughput demonstrates a significant performance leap compared with the previous-generation Intel® Xeon® processor E5-2697A v4, which could only process a single 10-bit 4Kp60 live channel in real time.
As HEVC adoption and volume accelerates, led by the support of HEVC video encoding/decoding support in next generation smartphones and tablets, Beamr is bringing to the market a robust, forward-looking approach to solving the technical and business needs of MSOs, Telcos, OTT service operators, and video distributors.
Beamr President Eli Lubitch comments, "Beamr is working in collaboration with Intel to ensure our encoding solutions deliver the best combination of quality, performance and density. The new Intel Xeon Platinum 8180 processor represents a bold leap into ultra-high volume HEVC encoding operations. Our customers continue to demand CPUs that can accommodate both H.264/AVC and H.265/HEVC workflows. We are proud to have achieved a six fold increase in density compared to the previous generation Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 V4."
"This fall, HEVC hardware playback is coming to millions of mobile devices," said Dan Rodriguez, Vice President, Network Platforms Group and General Manager, Communications Infrastructure Division, Intel Corporation. "With the improvements delivered by Beamr's HEVC software encoder running on Intel Xeon Scalable processors, it is possible to achieve the ultrahigh encoding density, performance and quality that is needed to accommodate the explosion of users and video assets being delivered over the mobile network."
The excellent performance and scalability of Beamr's HEVC software encoder is achieved by fully utilizing the 56 cores and 112 threads available on the Intel Xeon Platinum 8180 processor. The new micro-architecture and 6-channel DDR4 memory subsystem these processors, combined with Beamr's patented method for achieving ultra-fast encoder decisions, are key factors in increasing encoding density while maintaining the highest possible video quality.
Tightly tuned HEVC encoding software from Beamr, running on Intel Xeon Scalable processors, enhances the density, efficiency, quality, and flexibility of video encoding workflows for on-premises, cloud, and hybrid data center applications, giving service providers the tools to meet current business and technical demands.
Companies interested in learning more about this innovative solution are invited to meet with Beamr in Booth 5.C50 during the IBC show September 15th to September 19th in Amsterdam. Beamr will also be running fully functional demonstrations of the Beamr 5 Intel Xeon Platinum 8180 processor-based solution in the Intel Booth 5.B65.
