Amlogic Achieves Android 9 Pie Ready With Its Set-Top Box Platform
Company Demonstrating 1GB DDR 4K (1G4K) Android TV Ready Set-Top Box Solution Running Android 9 Pie at IBC2018 in Amsterdam

AMSTERDAM, Sept. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- IBC2018 -- Amlogic, a leading fabless semiconductor company and Google system-on-chip (SoC) partner, today announced it has successfully integrated Android 9 Pie into its S905X SoC powered 1G4K Android TV set-top box platform. Along with the integration of Android 9 Pie, the platform has been verified by Google to achieve as the Android 9 Pie ready 1G4K solution for the industry. With this achievement, Amlogic, collaborating with Google and developers throughout the world, can speed to market improved performance and function in smart TV set-top box applications.

Google officially released its latest Android version, Android 9 Pie (Android P) in August. Android P for Android TV features optimizations for improved system performance and reduced memory utilization, enhanced user experience — for launcher, setup, settings and other Google apps — new security and continued improvements to Treble to make developer updates easier.

"Getting Android 9 Pie ready on our Android TV set-top box platform is beneficial, not only to Amlogic but to the market in general," said James Xie, vice president of corporate business strategy for Amlogic. "At Amlogic, we're doing our part to provide high performance, yet affordable, set-top box and smart TV technologies for an improved consumer 4K TV experience."

In June, Amlogic launched the S905X system solution with support for Netflix and a 1GB DDR memory configuration designed for use on 4K UHD Android TV set-top boxes. This solution delivers high-quality 4K resolution streaming to a wider range of consumers than ever before, thanks to an innovative design that requires only 1GB of DDR memory. The S905X 1G4K solution substantially lowers the production cost to enable increased market penetration of 4K set-top boxes worldwide.

Amlogic now provides the Android TV P ready set-top box reference solution in the market. The first Android TV P solution from Amlogic is the S905X 4K set-top-box reference design with 1G of memory, available now. Set-top boxes utilizing the 1G4K S905X reference design shall be available by end of 2018.

"At Amlogic, we can't wait to see the first consumer products based on the S905X with integrated Android TV P," Xie added. "Consumers will enjoy the new features and functions the combined technologies provide."

Amlogic, along with its original design manufacturer (ODM) partners, is demonstrating a 1G4K Android TV ready set-top box running Android P at IBC2018, Hall 5, Stand A27, at RAI in Amsterdam Sept. 14-18, 2018.
